overheard...
Student A: Spirit? What's that?
Student B: Your spirit is kinda like a hamster that's inside you.

Granny Kringle
Student: Mr. X! Guess who came to my house last night?
Me: Santa Claus?
Student: No. My grandma!
Me: Well, grandmas are sort of like Santa Claus in disguise.
Student: No. She doesn't have a beard.

Ole!
We rotate for "Traditions Around the World" right before Winter Break. Each teacher talks about a country and their traditions, complete with activities and hands on learning.
I was "Mexico" and talking about Los Posadas.
As the kids were coming in my room I said, "Hola! Como estas? Muy bien? bueno!" (translation: Hi! How are you? Good? Good!)
With a completely straight face and dead serious a student said, "I only know Taco Tuesday."

Not Quite...
While reading Charlotte's Web, we got to a part that mentioned a manure pile. I stopped and asked...
Me: What is manure?
Student: Oh Oh Oh! It's that thing that we talked about. YOU KNOW! That thing with the candles at Hanukkah.
Me: That's a menorah. Let's not get those confused! :)
